Characterizing Candidate Blazar Counterparts of the Ultra-High-Energy Event KM3-230213A
2025-02-12 • O. Adriani, S. Aiello, Fermi-LAT Collaboration, Owens Valley Radio Observatory -m Telescope Group, SNAP Collaboration, S. Alves Garre, J. Buchner,...
High-energy astrophysical neutrinos serve as crucial messengers for understanding hadronic acceleration processes and identifying the origins of cosmic rays, with blazars among the most promising neutrino sources. The KM3NeT experiment reported the detection of an ultra-high-energy neutrino with an energy estimate of ~ 220 PeV, the most energetic yet observed. The neutrino arrival direction has a 99% confidence region of 3° radius centered at RA 94.3°, Dec -7.8° (J2000). In this work, seventeen candidate blazars l…

Search for quantum decoherence in neutrino oscillations with six detection units of KM3NeT/ORCA
2025-03-01 • S. Aiello, A. Albert, A.R Alhebsi, M. Alshamsi, S. Alves Garre, A. Ambrosone, F. Ameli, M. André, L. Aphecetche, M. Ardid, S. Ardid, H. Atmani, J....
Abstract Neutrinos described as an open quantum system may interact with the environment which introduces stochastic perturbations to their quantum phase. This mechanism leads to a loss of coherence along the propagation of the neutrino - a phenomenon commonly referred to as decoherence - and ultimately, to a modification of the oscillation probabilities. Fluctuations in space-time, as envisaged by various theories of quantum gravity, are a potential candidate for a decoherence-inducing environment. Consequently, …

Search for non-standard neutrino interactions with the first six detection units of KM3NeT/ORCA

Abstract KM3NeT/ORCA is an underwater neutrino telescope under construction in the Mediterranean Sea. Its primary scientific goal is to measure the atmospheric neutrino oscillation parameters and to determine the neutrino mass ordering. ORCA can constrain the oscillation parameters Δ m 2 31 and θ 23 by reconstructing the arrival direction and energy of multi-GeV neutrinos crossing the Earth. Searches for deviations from the Standard Model of particle physics in the forward scattering of neutrinos inside Earth matt…

KM3NeT Constraint on Lorentz-Violating Superluminal Neutrino Velocity
2025-02-17 • O. Adriani, S. Aiello, S. Aiello, A.R Alhebsi, M. Alshamsi, S. Alves Garre, S. Alves Garre, F. Ameli, M. André, M. André, M. Ardid, Salva Ardid, S....
Lorentz invariance is a fundamental symmetry of spacetime and foundational to modern physics. One of its most important consequences is the constancy of the speed of light. This invariance, together with the geometry of spacetime, implies that no particle can move faster than the speed of light. In this article, we present the most stringent neutrino-based test of this prediction, using the highest energy neutrino ever detected to date, KM3-230213A. The arrival of this event, with an energy of $220^{+570}_{-110}\,…

Galactic transient sources with the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory
2025-04-24 • K. Abe, S. Abe, J. Abhir, A. Abhishek, F. Acero, A. Acharyya, R. Adam, Arnau Aguasca-Cabot, I. Agudo, Alejandra Aguirre-Santaella, Jorge Alfaro, R....
ABSTRACT A wide variety of Galactic sources show transient emission at soft and hard X-ray energies: low- and high-mass X-ray binaries containing compact objects, isolated neutron stars exhibiting extreme variability as magnetars as well as pulsar-wind nebulae. Although most of them can show emission up to MeV and/or GeV energies, many have not yet been detected in the TeV domain by Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes. In this paper, we explore the feasibility of detecting new Galactic transients with the Che…
