Lightweight and Efficient Post Quantum Key Encapsulation Mechanism Based on Q-Problem
2025-02-13 • Mostefa Kara, Konstantinos Κarampidis, Spyros Panagiotakis, Mohammad Hammoudeh, Muhamad Felemban, Giorgos Papadourakis
The Q-problem is a new lightweight and hard mathematical problem that resists quantum attacks. It depends on putting one known value and two unknown values per equation; whatever the operator, the Q-problem defines certain conditions between equations. This paper presents a new key exchange protocol based on the Q-problem. To protect secure end-to-end communication over a public transmission channel, the proposed mechanism consists of two rounds of exchanging totally random numbers, which ensure a shared secret ke…

Design and Implementation of a Low-Cost, Linear Robotic Camera System, Targeting Greenhouse Plant Growth Monitoring
2024-04-23 • Zacharias Kamarianakis, Spyros Perdikakis, Ioannis Ν. Daliakopoulos, Dimitrios Papadimitriou, Spyros Panagiotakis
Automated greenhouse production systems frequently employ non-destructive techniques, such as computer vision-based methods, to accurately measure plant physiological properties and monitor crop growth. By utilizing an automated image acquisition and analysis system, it becomes possible to swiftly assess the growth and health of plants throughout their entire lifecycle. This valuable information can be utilized by growers, farmers, and crop researchers who are interested in self-cultivation procedures. At the same…

Towards a Supervised Remote Laboratory Platform for Teaching Microcontroller Programming
2024-04-08 • Manos Garefalakis, Zacharias Kamarianakis, Spyros Panagiotakis
As it concerns remote laboratories (RLs) for teaching microcontroller programming, the related literature reveals several common characteristics and a common architecture. Our search of the literature was constrained to papers published in the period of 2020–2023 specifically on remote laboratories related to the subject of teaching microcontroller programming of the Arduino family. The objective of this search is to present, on the one hand, the extent to which the RL platform from the Hellenic Mediterranean Univ…

An Editorial for the Special Issue “Pervasive Computing in IoT”
2024-05-30 • Spyros Panagiotakis, Evangelos Markakis
In the era of Internet of Things (IoT) we have entered, the “Monitoring–Decision–Execution” cycle of typical autonomic and automation systems is extended, so it includes distributed developments that might scale from a smart home or greenhouse to a smart city and from autonomous driving to emergency management [...]

Design and Implementation of a Low-Cost Chlorophyll Content Meter
2023-03-01 • Zacharias Kamarianakis, Spyros Panagiotakis
Chlorophyll meters are portable devices used to assess and improve plants’ nitrogen management and to help farmers in the determination of the health condition of plants through leaf greenness measurements. These optical electronic instruments can provide an assessment of chlorophyll content by measuring the light passing through a leaf or by measuring the light radiation reflected from its surface. However, independently of the main principle of operation and use (e.g., absorbance vs. reflectance measurements), c…
