We study interacting theories of <a:math xmlns:a="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><a:mi>N</a:mi></a:math> left-moving and <c:math xmlns:c="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><c:mover accent="true"><c:mi>N</c:mi><c:mo stretchy="false">¯</c:mo></c:mover></c:math> right-moving Floreanini-Jackiw bosons in two dimensions. A parametrized family of such theories is shown to enjoy (nonmanifest) Lorentz invariance if and only if its Lagrangian obeys a flow equation driven by a functio…

Holographic Renormalization Group and Stress Tensor Operators
2024-04-16 • Stephen Ebert
The holographic duality conjectures a relation between strongly coupled quantum systems and quantum gravity in higher-dimensional spacetimes. Gravitational theories in two and three dimensions are meaningful examples for classical and quantum exploration due to their unique characteristics, notably the absence of propagating bulk degrees of freedom and the presence of only boundary degrees of freedom, distinguishing them from higher-dimensional counterparts. These gravitational theories exhibit complex interaction…

Flows in the Space of Interacting Chiral Boson Theories
2024-03-27 • Stephen Ebert, Christian Ferko, Cian Luke Martin, Gabriele Tartaglino‐Mazzucchelli
We study interacting theories of $N$ left-moving and $\overline{N}$ right-moving Floreanini-Jackiw bosons in two dimensions. A parameterized family of such theories is shown to enjoy (non-manifest) Lorentz invariance if and only if its Lagrangian obeys a flow equation driven by a function of the energy-momentum tensor. We discuss the canonical quantization of such theories along classical stress tensor flows, focusing on the case of the root-$T \overline{T}$ deformation, where we obtain perturbative results for th…

Anisotropic compactification of nonrelativistic M-theory
2023-11-21 • Stephen Ebert, Ziqi Yan
A bstract We study a decoupling limit of M-theory where the three-form gauge potential becomes critical. This limit leads to nonrelativistic M-theory coupled to a non-Lorentzian spacetime geometry. Nonrelativistic M-theory is U-dual to M-theory in the discrete light cone quantization, a non-perturbative approach related to the Matrix theory description of M-theory. We focus on the compactification of nonrelativistic M-theory over a two-torus that exhibits anisotropic behaviors due to the foliation structure of the…
