2025-07-31 • Karthik Iyer, Justin A Jebackumar, Sarah Sundet, Mary Mathew, Vikram Oke
Surviving an arterial pH below 6.5 is exceedingly rare due to significant disruption of processes at the cellular level. We report a case of a 25-year-old female with altered mental status, hypotension, and refractory metabolic acidosis. Initial arterial blood gases were unreadable, but aggressive sodium bicarbonate therapy revealed an arterial pH of 6.62. Suspected ethylene glycol poisoning led to aggressive bicarbonate replacement, fomepizole therapy, and emergent hemodialysis. The patient showed rapid clinical …

Abstract Background Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that demands prompt treatment for improved patient outcomes. Its heterogenous presentation makes early detection challenging, highlighting the need for effective risk assessment tools. Artificial Intelligence (AI) models have the potential to accurately identify septic patients, but none have previously been FDA-authorized for commercial use. This study outlines the development and validation of the Sepsis ImmunoScore, the first FDA-authorized AI-based sof…

2016-01-01 • Md Basunia, Samir Fahmy, Frances Schmidt, Chidozie Agu, Bikash Bhattarai, Vikram Oke, Danilo Enriquez, Joseph Quist
Most of the symptoms in OSAHS in adults are related to decreased stage N3 sleep. If confirmed by larger controlled studies, correcting N3 sleep deficiency by pharmacotherapy may become an important adjunct to CPAP/BIPAP therapy to alleviate symptoms.

2015-01-01 • Vikram Oke, Rakesh Vadde, Prajakta Munigikar, Bikash Bhattarai, Chidozie Agu, Rashawn Basunia, Divya Salhan, Danilo Enriquez, Joseph Quist, Frances...
Foreign body aspiration (FBA) is more common in children than adults with about 80% occurring in children aged less than 15 years. FBA in adults is often overlooked as a potential cause of airway obstruction especially if there is no asphyxiation. We present a case of a 45-year-old male with alcohol abuse who presented with post-obstructive pneumonia secondary to aspiration of tooth of unknown duration. The tooth was removed via flexible bronchoscopy (FBr) and we will discuss the use of FBr for foreign body (FB) r…
