Preparation of a Carbon Quantum Dot from Star Anise and Its Applications as an Antibacterial Agent and as a Probe for Sensing of Permanganate Ions
2025-08-07 • Yu Wang, Lunan Wang, Yanfei Niu, Li-Peng Hu, Xu Lin, Chunhua Wu, Xiaoping Rao
A cost-effective and efficient one-step hydrothermal method was employed to synthesize fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) by using star anise as the precursor, eliminating the need for chemical reagents. The synthesized CQDs were characterized using multiple analytical techniques, indicating that the synthesized CQDs revealed a mean particle size of 1.9 nm, demonstrating excellent dispersion and a spherical morphology. Under 365 nm UV light, the CQDs emitted blue fluorescence. The fluorescence spectra showed t…

Hypolipidemic and Antithrombotic Effect of 6′-O-Caffeoylarbutin from Vaccinium dunalianum Based on Zebrafish Model, Network Pharmacology, and Molecular Docking
2024-02-08 • Boxiao Wu, Churan Li, Huan Kan, Ying‐Jun Zhang, Xiaoping Rao, Yun Liu, Ping Zhao
Vaccinium dunalianum leaf buds make one of the most commonly used herbal teas of the Yi people in China, which is used to treat articular rheumatism, relax tendons, and stimulates blood circulation in the body. In addition, 6′-O-caffeoylarbutin (CA) is a standardized extract of V. dunalianum, which has been found in dried leaf buds, reaching levels of up to 31.76%. Because of the uncommon phenomenon, it is suggested that CA may have a potential therapeutic role in hyperlipidemia and thrombosis. This study was desi…

Identification of Key Hypolipidemic Components and Exploration of the Potential Mechanism of Total Flavonoids from Rosa sterilis Based on Network Pharmacology, Molecular Docking, and Zebrafish Experiment
2024-05-23 • Boxiao Wu, Churan Li, Xulu Luo, Huan Kan, Yonghe Li, Ying‐Jun Zhang, Xiaoping Rao, Ping Zhao, Yun Liu
Hyperlipidemia is a prevalent chronic metabolic disease that severely affects human health. Currently, commonly used clinical therapeutic drugs are prone to drug dependence and toxic side effects. Dietary intervention for treating chronic metabolic diseases has received widespread attention. Rosa sterilis is a characteristic fruit tree in China whose fruits are rich in flavonoids, which have been shown to have a therapeutic effect on hyperlipidemia; however, their exact molecular mechanism of action remains unclea…

High-Value-Added Utilization of Turpentine: Screening of Anti-Influenza Virus Agents from β-Pinene Derivatives
2023-09-08 • Yiwen Li, Hongyan Si, Peng Wang, Hai Luo, Minggui Shen, Xiaoping Rao, Zhanqian Song, Shibin Shang, Zongde Wang, Shengliang Liao
Turpentine is a renewable and resourceful forest product. The deep processing and utilization of turpentine, particularly its primary component β-pinene, has garnered widespread attention. This study aimed to synthesize 40 derivatives of β-pinene, including nopinone, 3-cyanopyridines of nopinone, myrtanyl acid, myrtanyl acylthioureas, and myrtanyl amides. We assessed the antiviral activities of these β-pinene derivatives against influenza virus A/Puerto Rico/8/34 (H1N1) using the 3-(4,5-dimety…

Preparation of Amide-Containing Insecticidal Derivatives from the Renewable Natural Product β-Pinene
2023-01-01 • Jiulong Wang, Yanqing Gao, Xiaoping Rao, Zongde Wang, Shibin Shang, Zhanqian Song, Hongyan Si, Shengliang Liao
The preparation of bioactive derivatives from the renewable natural product pinene is a hot research topic in the deep processing and utilization of pinene. In this study, β-pinene was used to develop novel molecules as a promising new precursor of insecticide. A series of amide-containing derivatives of β-pinene were synthesized and characterized. The insecticidal activities of these derivatives against Mythimna separate and Semiaphis heraclei were tested. The structure characterization results showed that the ch…
