Image Simulation in Remote Sensing
2022-04-08 • Yang Dam Eo
Remote sensing is being actively researched in the fields of environment, military and urban planning through technologies such as monitoring of natural climate phenomena on the earth, land cover classification, and object detection. Recently, satellites equipped with observation cameras of various resolutions were launched, and remote sensing images are acquired by various observation methods including cluster satellites. However, the atmospheric and environmental conditions present in the observed scene degrade …

Impact of Land Cover and Leaf Area Index on BVOC Emissions over the Korean Peninsula
2020-07-30 • Youjung Jang, Yang Dam Eo, Meongdo Jang, Jung‐Hun Woo, Younha Kim, Jae-Bum Lee, Jae‐Hyun Lim
Biogenic volatile organic compound (BVOCs) emissions are the largest VOC emission source globally, and are precursors to ozone and secondary organic aerosols, both of which are strong, short-lived climate pollutants. BVOC emissions are usually estimated using the Model of Emissions of Gases and Aerosols from Nature (MEGAN), which requires Plant Functional Types (PFTs) and Leaf Area Indexes (LAIs) as inputs. Herein, the effects of refined input data on regional BVOC emission estimates are analyzed. For LAIs, lower …

A Learning-Based Image Fusion for High-Resolution SAR and Panchromatic Imagery
2020-05-09 • Dae Kyo Seo, Yang Dam Eo
Image fusion is an effective complementary method to obtain information from multi-source data. In particular, the fusion of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and panchromatic images contributes to the better visual perception of objects and compensates for spatial information. However, conventional fusion methods fail to address the differences in imaging mechanism and, therefore, they cannot fully consider all information. Thus, this paper proposes a novel fusion method that both considers the differences in imagin…

Multilayer Perceptron-Based Phenological and Radiometric Normalization for High-Resolution Satellite Imagery
2019-10-25 • Dae Kyo Seo, Yang Dam Eo
Radiometric normalization is an essential preprocessing step that must be performed to detect changes in multi-temporal satellite images and, in general, relative radiometric normalization is utilized. However, most relative radiometric normalization methods assume a linear relationship and they cannot take into account nonlinear properties, such as the distribution of the earth’s surface or phenological differences that are caused by the growth of vegetation. Thus, this paper proposes a novel method that assumes …
