<i>Mycobacterium intracellulare</i> Infection in a Japanese Patient with Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription-3 Gain-of-Function Syndrome: A Case Report Open
Signal transducer and activator of transcription-3 (STAT3) gain-of-function (GOF) syndrome predisposes patients to autoimmunity diseases. Yet, nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections have rarely been described. We herein report a tee…
View article: Microperimetry-guided inverted internal limiting membrane flap site selection to preserve retinal sensitivity in macular hole with glaucoma
Microperimetry-guided inverted internal limiting membrane flap site selection to preserve retinal sensitivity in macular hole with glaucoma Open
Determining the location and area of the inverted ILM flap on the basis of microperimetry results is a promising patient-tailored strategy for treating MH concomitant with glaucoma while preventing further ILM peeling-associated reduction …

Quantitative Analyses of Retinal Traction Force and Metamorphopsia in Lamellar Macular Hole and Related Diseases Open
Retinal traction was significantly weaker in the LMH group than in the ERM-FS and MPH groups. The MDRF was significantly associated with the degree of metamorphopsia in the ERM-FS and MPH groups. These results provide insights into the dis…

Effect of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment on preoperative and postoperative retinal sensitivities Open
This retrospective study investigated foveal and perifoveal retinal sensitivities using microperimetry before and after surgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). Consecutive patients with RRD who underwent vitrectomy or scleral …
View article: The influence of subretinal injection pressure on the microstructure of the monkey retina
The influence of subretinal injection pressure on the microstructure of the monkey retina Open
The retinal damage caused by subretinal injection increases depending on pressure, indicating that clinicians should perform subretinal injection at pressures as low as possible to ensure safety.

A novel cell exclusion zone assay with a barrier made from room temperature vulcanizing silicone rubber Open
RTV silicone rubber can be used to create an effective barrier in cell exclusion zone assays and allows simple and low-cost multi-parametric analysis of cell migration.

Factors affecting foveal avascular zone in healthy eyes: An examination using swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography Open
OCTA results suggest that CRT and retinal vascular density negatively affect FAZ area in healthy eyes.
View article: The Role of Inverted Internal Limiting Membrane Flap in Macular Hole Closure
The Role of Inverted Internal Limiting Membrane Flap in Macular Hole Closure Open
During MH closure, the ILM functioned as a scaffold for the proliferation and migration of Müller cells, and may promote Müller cell activation. Neurotrophic factors and bFGF produced by activated Müller cells and present on the surface of…

Assessment of tilt and decentration of crystalline lens and intraocular lens relative to the corneal topographic axis using anterior segment optical coherence tomography Open
When measured using second generation AS-OCT, both the crystalline lens and the IOL showed an average tilt of 4-6° toward the inferotemporal direction relative to the corneal topographic axis and an average decentration of less than 0.12 m…
View article: Effect of trabeculectomy on visual field progression in Japanese progressive normal-tension glaucoma with intraocular pressure < 15 mmHg
Effect of trabeculectomy on visual field progression in Japanese progressive normal-tension glaucoma with intraocular pressure < 15 mmHg Open
We examined the effectiveness of trabeculectomy in decreasing the slope of mean deviation (MD) in Japanese patients with progressive normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) at low intraocular pressure (IOP) levels. The charts of patients who had und…

Effects of pre-surgical administration of prostaglandin analogs on the outcome of trabeculectomy Open
For primary open angle glaucoma (POAG), laser treatment or surgery is used when the target intraocular pressure (IOP) cannot be achieved by pharmacological agents, such as prostaglandin (PG) analogs; these drugs also have varied effects. W…
View article: Suppressive effect of AMP-activated protein kinase on the epithelial-mesenchymal transition in retinal pigment epithelial cells
Suppressive effect of AMP-activated protein kinase on the epithelial-mesenchymal transition in retinal pigment epithelial cells Open
The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells plays a central role in the development of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR). The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of AMP-activate…

Representative ERM Cases of Each Group by Intraretinal Cyst Location. Open
Panels (A–B) show examples of images from the group with no cysts (i.e., the no cyst group): A; pre-operation, B; post-operation. Panels (C–D) show examples of cases from the group with cystic spaces in the inner retina (i.e., the inner gr…

Surgical Outcome of Idiopathic Epiretinal Membranes with Intraretinal Cystic Spaces Open
Intraretinal cystic spaces were observed in 5.5% of preoperative idiopathic ERM cases. Following surgery, the cystic spaces in the outer retinal layer disappeared at higher rates than those in the inner retinal layer, suggesting that the p…
