Geometry

Branch of mathematics

Geometry (from Ancient Greek __ γεωμετρία (_geōmetría) 'land measurement'; from __ γῆ () 'earth, land' and __ μέτρον (métron) 'a measure') is a branch of mathematics concerned with properties of space such as the distance, shape, size, and relative position of figures. Geometry is, along with arithmetic, one of the oldest branches of mathematics. A mathematician who works in the field of geometry is called a _geometer. Until the 19th century, geometry was almost exclusively devoted to Euclidean geometry, which includes the notions of point, line, plane, distance, angle, surface, and curve, as fundamental concepts.

Geometric and control optimization of a two cross-flow turbine array
2020
Cross-flow turbines, also known as vertical-axis turbines, convert the kinetic energy in moving fluid to mechanical energy using blades that rotate about an axis perpendicular to the incoming flow. In this work, the performance of a two-turbine array in a recirculating water channel was experimentally optimized across 64 unique array configurations. For each configuration, turbine performance was optimized using tip-speed ratio control, where the rotation rate for each turbine is optimized individually, and using …
