Significance Poly(rC)-binding protein 1 (PCBP1) regulates multiple cellular processes; many studies have focused on its role in tumor formation and metastasis through its capacity to bind nucleic acids. PCBP1 binds to DNA and RNA and mediates interactions with other proteins that affect transcription and messenger RNA processing. PCBP1 is also an iron chaperone.
