Description
Singham Returns is a 2014 Indian Hindi-language action film written and directed by Rohit Shetty and produced by Ajay Devgn FFilms, Reliance Entertainment and Rohit Shetty Picturez. Loosely inspired by the 1993 Malayalam film Ekalavyan , it is a sequel to the 2011 film Singham and serves as the second installment in Shetty's Cop Universe. The film stars Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan while Amole Gupte, Anupam Kher, Sonalee Kulkarni, Govind Namdev, Zakir Hussain, Dayanand Shetty and Pankaj Tripathi play supporting roles.
The film was released theatrically worldwide on 15 August 2014, during India's Independence Day. Upon release, it broke several opening day records. Made on a budget of ₹70 crore, the film performed commercially well at the box office with a global gross of ₹219 crore, and stood up as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2014.
Devgn reprised his role in a cameo appearance for Simmba (2018) and Sooryavanshi (2021), next films of Cop Universe. In December 2022, a third Singham film titled Singham Again began pre-production. Starring Ajay Devgn, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and Jackie Shroff, it is set to release on 15 August 2024.
